Archbishop Ryan’s Third Quarter Run enough to Defeat Pennsbury

Junior Gary Francis scored nearly all of Pennsbury’s second half points to finish with 19, as the Falcons dropped their home opener to Archbishop Ryan, 59-37. The loss at Falcons Nest, gives Pennsbury a 1-2 record on the season.

Francis scored the first 10 points of the second half for the Falcons. “In the first half I wasn’t that aggressive, didn’t play too well. So I wanted to make sure I put my imprint on the game in the second half,” said Gary Francis.

Francis’ big start in the third quarter sparked his team in a 10-3 run to cut the Raider’s lead down to as little as five. Archbishop Ryan tightened up their defense to force turnovers, Pennsbury Senior Josh Aruda picked up three fouls, and went on a 13-1 run to close out the third quarter. Within minutes, the Falcons saw their five point margin grow to 17 heading into the final quarter.

Colin Reed paced Archbishop Ryan with 14 points. Glenn Smith and Jaquill Stone finished with 10 points apiece.

Senior Chad Weldon was the second highest Falcons’ scorer with six points as senior Raylil Winton added five.

“They Out-toughed us on our Home quarter and beat us by 20. It’s going to leave a sour taste in our mouth, but we’re going to get back in practice tomorrow and we get back on I.T on Saturday,” said Francis regarding the loss.

Next, Pennsbury is back on the road facing Coatesville in the Diane Mosco Foundation Shootout against Cancer. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:30 at Archbishop Wood. The game will be live streamed on WBCBSports.com.
